“Doyle G. Whiting proved age is no barrier to living your dream” –Mike Jones, President

Doyle Whiting June 2011 Class

Doyle Whiting June 2011 Class

We are saddened to announce the passing of June 2011 Texas Auction Academy graduate Doyle G. Whiting, Cedar Creek, Texas who went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 after a short bout with cancer. Mr. Whiting was one of TAA’s oldest auction school students when he graduated in June of 2011. “Doyle was worried that he was too old to become an auctioneer and I assured him he was not. He was a kind, gentle man who inspired his classmates and helped others make the decision on whether to attend auction school later in life” said Mike Jones, President of the Texas Auction Academy.

Doyle was extremely proud of acquiring his Texas Auctioneers license and starting a new business. He and his wife Barbara built a beautiful auction facility in Cedar Creek, Texas where they have been conducting weekly auction for the last two years. His wife Barbara and son her attended and graduated from the Texas Auction Academy in August 2013. Doyle and Barbara are members of the National and Texas Auctioneers Associations. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Doyle his wife Barbara and the entire Whiting family.

Dear Mr. Jones,

After graduating from Texas Auction Academy in June of this year, I started R. Grassi Auctions. Within a few months following graduation, my company has been steady. We have been trying to find our “thing” as we experienced Estate Auctions and Business Liquidations. On Monday, December 16, 2013, our company auctioned one of the largest Wire Hanger Companies in the United States, Eagle Hangers, Inc. (FF& E). Although there were a few obstacles preceding the sale, it was a great success. I was able to get $525,000 for the company in less than 2 minutes. This was almost $200,000 more than the bank expected, minimizing their loss to almost nothing.

You were very helpful in your immediate reply regarding questions that I had pertaining to legal issues that came up. In the end, it all worked out. Thanks for your continuous support to your students.

It’s funny, I used the knowledge and license obtained from a $1500 auction course that took me 10 days to acquire and in six months paid off my $40,000 in college loans that took 6 years to acquire. Really???

Take Care,
Rick Grassi
